Pool/Lane

 Pool/Lane: Structures a Business Process into responsibilities and roles according to BPMN 2.0. Lanes are defined within one or multiple pools and represent the activities' responsibility. Pools represent participating organizations, systems etc. A pool can contain any number of lanes.

Properties

Pool Name

Free text name of the pool (if a pool is selected)

Lane Name

Free text name of the lane (if a lane is selected)

Line Color

Line color of the pool or the selected lane. To change the color, select the property and click

.

Possible values:

  • RGB(RRR,GGG,BBB): 24 bit RGB color code (can be selected via a color picker dialog)

  • RGB(0,0,0): Black (default)

Line Width

Line width of the pool or of the selected lane in pixels
Possible values:

  • Any positive integer number

  • 1: Line with 1 pixel width (Default)

Fill Color

Fill color of the pool or a selected lane. To change the color select the property and click

.

Possible values:

  • RGB(RRR,GGG,BBB): 24 bit RGB color code (can be selected via a color picker dialog)

  • RGB(255, 255, 255): White (default)

Using Pools/Lanes in Business Processes

Pools outline involved organizations, systems etc. and may contain multiple lanes. In the pool/lane layout, the chronological progress is visualized mostly from upper left to lower right.

  1. Insert and edit a pool:

    • Drag the Pool symbol

       from the Palette to the workplace via drag&drop.

    • Scale the pool by clicking and holding the corner handles.

    • Change the text label of a pool: In the Properties view enter another text in Pool Name.

    • Change the formatting: Select the property Fill Color or Line Color in the Properties view, and click 

       to open a color palette.

  2. Add and edit a lane:

    • Right-click on a pool, and select Add Lane from the context menu.

    • Change the text label of a lane: In the Properties view enter another text in Pool Name.

    • Change the formatting: Select the property Fill Color or Line Color in the Properties view, and click 

       to open a color palette.
