Getting Started

The Getting Started section helps you get started with the X4 BPMS (Business Process Modeling Software).

Here, you can find general information on the X4 BPMS components, discover how to work with the X4 BPMS on a project basis, and learn how to create your first projects. Moreover, you can learn how to import test projects and export example projects you have created.

If you are interested, you can also find example projects for the following project types: BPM Project, ESB Project, and Web App Project. You can follow the instructions for these examples step by step and thus learn how X4 BPMS works and how to implement your company's projects.

For more detailed information on the features and benefits of the X4  BPMS, see this Overview of the X4 BPMS.

X4 BPMS components

The X4 BPMS installation consists of the following three components:

Component

Description

X4 Server

The X4 Server is at the heart of the X4 BPMS. As a central building block in the X4 BPMS architecture, the X4 Server is the central memory for projects and Business Processes, and is responsible for executing and controlling all processes.

Keycloak

The X4 BPMS uses the open source solution Keycloak for user and role management. Keycloak serves as an identity and access management solution, protects the X4 BPMS from unwanted access, and enables the creation of different users and user groups with different rights and roles.

X4 Designer

The X4 Designer as an integrated developer tool represents the graphical user interface of the X4 BPMS. Using the X4 Designer, Business Processes can be modeled based on BPMN 2.0 (Business Process Model and Notation) and business rules according to DMN 1.1 (Decision Model and Notation). With the X4 Designer, processes can be graphically created using drag&drop. Moreover, the user can use appropriate input masks to configure the individual process components.
