Creating a Workspace

The X4 Repository can consist of several workspaces. The projects are managed in a workspace.

The X4 Repository is the X4DB folder in the server directory. The workspaces are the individual folders within the X4DB folder.

Note:

Workspace 1 is present by default. The folders 0 and X4modules are system folders and must not be deleted.

How to create a workspace in the X4 Designer

Prerequisites:

  • The X4 Designer is connected to the server.
  • The user has the x4_dev_access_* role. Users with other roles can use Switch Workspace to select an existing workspace, but cannot create a new one.
  1. Select File > Switch Workspace.
  2. Enter the name for the new workspace in the Workspace field.
  3. Click OK.
  4. In the confirmation dialog, click OK.
The new workspace is created and is immediately available for selection in X4 Designer without restarting the server.

How to create a workspace on the file system

  2. Restart the X4 Server so that the workspace is available in the X4 Designer.

Note:

If you have created one or more workspaces, you will be prompted to select a workspace each time you start the X4 Designer.
